Strategic planning involves asking the fundamental questions:

Who are we?

What do we want to achieve and why?

And working step-by-step through to...

How are we going to get there?

Who needs to be involved?

How much will it cost?

How will we know we've arrived?

“As you heard by popular acclamation from the massed ranks of the Policy Department (cynics included) You were great! Thanks very much for helping us get our strategic planning process off to such a good start…”

Strategic Planning and Evaluation

We have developed a participatory, dynamic, ten step strategic planning process which energises and engages the whole organisation.

Jane at whiteboard during planning sessionUsing this process you can evaluate your achievements, identify your strategic issues, and set your future goals.

This framework can help you put your vision into practice based on the values at the heart of your organisation.

A Strategic Plan is not just there to keep the Donors happy! It can give you a real sense of direction and team work if everyone is involved in developing the plan from the start.

The Strategic Plan and the ideas and decisions it contains need to be “owned” by the whole team or organisation, with commitment at all levels. Participatory methods of planning encourage this, rather than “top down”. It should be fun!

The Plan will inform management styles, goals and decisions.

It will help your team to think strategically in their work and understand how it fits into the overall goals of the organisation.

Strategic thinking means retaining flexibility, creativity and motivation, as well as focus and clear boundaries. It should help to see where you can be most effective and avoid taking on too much.
